1. Enhanced Personalization with Themed Chat Bubbles
WhatsApp has introduced new customization options, allowing users to personalize their chat experience. The update includes themed chat bubbles, custom colors for chat bubbles, and 30 new wallpaper options. Users can select from preset themes that automatically choose bubble and text colors or manually adjust the appearance of their sent and received bubbles, as well as text colors. These themes are user-specific and can be applied across all chats and channels or selected for individual chats. The customization features are rolling out globally and will be available over the coming weeks. Users can change chat themes by accessing Settings > Chats > Default chat theme or by selecting the chat name or triple-dot menu for specific chats.
2. Introduction of Single-Play Voice Messages
In response to growing privacy concerns, WhatsApp now allows users to send voice messages that can be played only once. This feature ensures that sensitive audio messages aren't replayed or shared beyond their intended purpose. To utilize this function, users can open a chat, record a voice message by holding the microphone icon, slide up to lock the recording, tap the "1" icon, and send the message.
3. Integration of Social Media Links in Profiles
WhatsApp is enhancing its social connectivity by allowing personal users to link their social media accounts directly to their profiles, starting with Instagram. Previously available only for business accounts, this feature enables users to add social media links, providing a seamless way to share their online presence. Currently in beta testing for iOS, it is expected to roll out to all users soon.
4. Assigning Roles in Group Chats
To improve organization within group chats, WhatsApp is developing a feature that allows the assignment of custom labels to group members. These labels, visible only within the group, help identify roles or relationships, such as "John's Mom" or "Coach." This addition aims to provide immediate context and streamline group interactions. Currently available in beta for Android users, a full release is anticipated soon.
5. Enhanced Message Reactions and Sticker Sharing
WhatsApp has improved user interaction by introducing quicker message reactions and easier sticker sharing. Users can now double-tap a message to react and quickly scroll through their most-used reactions. Additionally, sharing sticker packs has been simplified, allowing users to send their favorite stickers directly within chats.
